The Minnie Blair Middle School opened in the fall of 1975 for grades six and seven. The land for the school was bought from the school's namesake Minnie Blair. The school operated as a Middle School for thirteen years untill it became part of the Churchill County High School in 1988.

Churchill County voters made one decision four years ago which would have affected every student. A proposed bond issue for a $4 million new high school was defeated at the polls, probably because of the high cost. Instead a $2 and 1/2 million middle school project was proposed and passed. The Minnie P. Blair Middle School opened its doors to student in the fall of 1975, relieving congestion at E.C. Best and West End School.
