Beach School House in Dixie Valley after 1961

The Beach Schoolhouse was built around 1926 and held classes until 1939 when this district consolidated with the Fallon city schools. After consolidation the Beach School building was moved to the West End School in 1949 and then to the Oats Park School to be used for band and orchestra, and finally to Dixie Vally in 1961.

BEACH DIST. MAKES PLANS FOR SCHOOL SEPARATION FROM CON. "B"
EXPECTED SOON; TO HIRE TEACHER
Separation of the Beach school district, ten miles south of Fallon, from the Consolidated "B" district, is being asked in petitions this week submitted to Churchill county commissioners. Patrons of the Beach expect that they will be independent of the large Fallon district in time to have a teacher employed by the first of the year.
Until this fall the consolidated district has been maintaining a school at the beach. Recently, however, it was contended by directors that the cost of maintaining the school there exceeded the cost of transporting pupils to Fallon, and the Beach school was discontinued. With a few exceptions, patrons at the Beach have refused to avail themselves of the consolidated school privileges and have been keeping their children out of school pending settlement of their divorce proceedings from the larger district. Separation of the district is approved by a large majority of patrons of the Beach district and directors of the consolidated district.
After it was announced that insufficient qualified signers were named on the petition for separation when an attempt was made early this fall to separate the Beach district, [ patrons of the Beach this week [ sought more support. The law requires three-fifths or the school patrons and taxpayers of the districts concerned before approval can be given by the county commissioners. These signatures have now been secured, it is claimed.
There are twelve children of school age at the Beach. Only two have been sent to the Consolidated "B" school this year, it is said.
Attendance at Fallon requires 22 miles travel daily by children, it is contended, whereas the pupil farthest to the Beach school is required to go but one mile. Primary pupils at the Beach can reach home early in the afternoon, while they are required to wait for the regular time of departure for school buses when attending at Fallon, is another point raised in favor of the local school. The Beach district comprises an area of approximately five square miles. The district is equipped with a school building in good condition.
Mrs. Ruth Rice has agreed to act as temporary teacher of the Beach school, providing separation is approval by the commissioners, until a regular teacher can be employed.

BEACH DISTRICT IS
BUILDING SCHOOL
Enterprising Ranchers Are
Donating Work for
New Building
Community interest in the Beach district has resulted in donations of labor by a number of ranchers to the building of a modern schoolhouse which will meet requirements of a standardized school- The Beach patrons propose to standardize as soon as enrollment reaches the required point.
The new building is nearing completion. It is 26x40 feet on the floor plan, is provided with an abundance of windows, comes up to scientific ideas for ventilation, and furnishings will be arranged so as to facilitate work of pupils and teacher. The new lots were provided by S. Johnson in exchange for the old site. The patrons plan to beautify the grounds with trees and shrubbery. All of the work is being donated and ten to twelve are now busy on the Job.
In addition to the new schoolhouse, a home is being provided for the teacher, and it will be fitted up in time for the school opening. The old schoolhouse has been moved to the new site for this purpose, and it will be remodeled and rearranged into a home.
Miss Alice Phillips has been employed to teach the school during the ensuing year. There will be an increase of attendance with the opening of school over attendance of fourteen last year and, according to present outlook, there will be greater increases of pupils during the next two years.
Directors of the district who have been taking a lead in building the schoolhouse are Riley Rice, Cash Lee and Mrs. Lydia Schafer.

More School Kids
Need More Room
At West End
Beach Building to
Be Moved into Town;
Bids to be Let
In spite of the beautiful newly erected very modern school building completed a year ago, still more room is needed for the lower grades. The Beach schoolhouse, erected in that district about twenty years ago, and in good condition has been purchased by the Con B district and as soon as bids are let the building will be moved and set upon a cement foundation at the West End school, repaired and lavatories installed, to take care of the overflow of young children.
The last year in which school was held in the Beach district was in 1939. In June of that year, the school board, Mrs. Barni Macari, Mrs. W. A. Austin and Mrs. Mark Lattin, petitioned the Con B board for permission to let the five remaining children attend the town school as funds were no longer available to carry on the school work. It was at the time only a temporary measure. Later the district consolidated with Con B. The first teacher in the Beach school was Mrs. Alice Rowecliffe, who was teaching in the Stillwater school a couple of years ago, when illness forced her to give up her teaching.
The building will be located at the south west corner and will be placed in the same position as the cottage building. It will be stuccoed to present a good appearance.
