Big Adobe School build 1871

Constructed around 1871, this was the first school built in Churchill County. It was made of Lahontan Valley clay by Lemuel Allen who was also the first teacher. In the History of Nevada, 1881, by Thompson and West they write, "The first school in Churchill County, under the county organization, was held in the “Big Adobe,” on the upper sink of the Carson, in December, 1871. The first teacher was Lemuel Allen, who is still a resident of the county."
