High School Fallon, Nev. written on photo

Fallon's first high school was a two story brick building built on Stillwater Avenue in 1907 on land donated by John Oats. The school was designed by Reno Architect Ben Leon and faced west toward south Broadway Street.  High school classes were held there until 1918 when it became an elementary school. It was torn down in 1939 and some of its bricks were used to build one of the cottage school buildings on that same site.

OUR NEWHIGH
SCHOOL
Ben Leon, the Reno architect was in Fallon Sunday on business connected with the drawing of the high school plans, for which work he has been selected by the honorable board of county commissioners.'
Mr. Leon states that the plans for our future institution of learning will call for a building modern in every respect. It will be fifty or sixty feet, two stories high, with two class rooms on each floor. There will have a hall 20 feet square and sliding doors, al- lowing of two class-rooms being converted into one, when necessary for lectures, etc.
The material of .which the building will be constructed has not been decided upon, but it is understood that the bids calling for contracts on the structure will include stone, brick and cement, wood having been wisely eliminated by the county commissioners in their reckoning.

High School will Commence October 7th

The county commissioners met as a high school board Tuesday evening at which time the application of Grace L. Moon, for the position of high school principal was acted upon favorably. Miss Moon comes to the work of inaugurating high school methods under favorable auspices, having been a teacher of many years’ experience. She taught high school studies in New York state for several years and later followed the same line of work in New Mexico. She wishes to announce that the course of study to be adopted will be identical with the State University high school at Reno. Matters pertaining to starting the high school will be rushed and every effort is being made to have every thing in readiness for the opening of the high school on the first Monday of next month. Owing to the fact that supplies and fixtures were ordered to come by freight and the maintenance of an irregular freight schedule for this section, it is possible , however, that the date selected, may be a few days to early, but the policy of the county high school board is to have school opened just as soon as possible.

Progress on High School Building

The laying of brick on the new high school building is being rushed, and the masons have reached the top of the second story windows. The contractors, Messrs. Orchard and Galloway, have been granted an additional months time in which to complete the building, which become necessary through no fault of theirs, but on account of not receiving the window frames from the factory. The additional time granted will be ample to complete the structure.
