Created in the early 20th century, the radio quickly took the world by storm by providing news, music and other programs to people in their homes with a quickness never before possible. The radio has over gone many different upgrades throughout the years and has remained one of the most popular mediums of entertainment to this day.
Families would typically gather around the radio to listen to what was on while doing other activities.
Radios such as the one you see here became the center of the home for many people. When she donated this radio, Patty Lewis recalled that it came with her family from Indiana in 1972. She remembered that “the radio stayed in the kitchen and was usually playing on the shelf above the sink.”
