Description

In 1907 Warren Williams donated land on what is now 285 S. Russell St to be used as an Elementary School. West End School was built as a two story brick building, very similar to Fallon's first highschool, in 1908 under the direction of T.A. Jones. The building had a metal slide coming from the second story at the back that was used as a fire escape. In 1938 the buildings top story was removed and it was remodeled into a two room building that resembled the cottage schools. This building was used until the 1954 earthquake. ( The roof of this building was then used by the Cherokee Drive-Inn, which then became part of Stockman's Casino located at 1560 W. Williams Ave) A new west end school was built in 1956.
