Description
The first Sheckler Schoolhouse was used previously by the government while building the Lahontan Dam. It was moved in 1907 from its original location by the powerhouse at Lake Lahontan to land donated to the school district by Dan Scheckler. This building burned down in December of 1913 due to a faulty stovepipe. In 1914 land was donated to the Scheckler School district under the Community Centers Act where the Secretary of the Interior could provide up to five acres on reclamation project land for public spaces. A new school was built on the west side of St. Clair Rd approximately one-half mile south of the intersection of Sheckler Rd. in 1915 and used until 1919 when the Sheckler school district joined Consolidated B. Around 1965 the building was torn down for salvagable parts. The land was returned to the government in October of 1982.
